Dear subscribers to the APC press list
Some of you will be aware of the 'resumed' session of PrepCom3 for the
World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS). APC's coordinator for
WSIS - Karen Banks karenb at gn.apc.org - has provided some notes useful
for the press, including links to the two documents produced by civil
society present at the resumed session last week.
Best

In Germany the "German Coordiniation Group for WSIS" tried to raise
public
attention on WSIS by establishing a press team. We published some press
releases and tried to push interviews with civil society representatives
from the german delegation - but there was only little response in the
media.
We also have a press review with several articles in german and english.
You can have a look at it on
http://www.wsis-koordinierungskreis.de/PresseSpiegel.html
We have the impression that the press coverage will raise short before
and
during the summit itself.
The prep. process is well recognized by journalists but not yet
mentioned
in most of the papers.
best regards,
Christine

comments from one in response to press:
=====
Interesting, the point of view of the press on WSIS, at least in
Switzerland. In France WSIS is "not on the agenda" in the national
press.
On the other hand the European Social Forum had a very strong impact in
both
the national and regional papers and magazines. So there is nothing to
report from here upon WSIS, unless Bruno Oudet has a more wider view
from
his Paris office.
But what about German and British press ?
I guess, except ourselves, the Swiss community, a handful of assigned
diplomats and their advisors there isn't a great interest upon this
Summit.
And the (bad)stage it has achieved last week won't promote it ! This
differentiates it completely from the Jo'burg Summit ! BTW could the
Media
caucus who is/was particularly active gatther more information about the
SMSI seen from the international press side ?
Thanks
