Dear Colleagues

The IFLA World Library and Information Congress begins in Helsinki in 12 days. I would like to invite those of you attending to join us in an informal meeting to hear more about a number of initiatives IFLA and its partners are currently undertaking in the area of libraries and development. The meeting will have a particular focus on two recent initiatives: the Dynamic Coalition on Public Access in Libraries at the Internet Governance Forum (http://www.intgovforum.org/cms/component/content/article/114-preparatory-process/1003-dynamic-coalition-on-public-libraries <http://www.intgovforum.org/cms/component/content/article/114-preparatory-process/1003-dynamic-coalition-on-public-libraries> ) and the Beyond Access Campaign (www.beyondaccesscampaign.org <http://www.beyondaccesscampaign.org> ).

The aim is to discuss how we can broaden participation in both initiatives. It will be an informal meeting, although it will be structured to make sure we discuss the areas we want to address:

1. The Internet Governance Forum and the Dynamic Coalition on Public Access in Libraries

o What is the IGF, and what is the Dynamic Coalition?

o Library Activities at IGF 2012, Azerbaijan

§ Workshop (review of proposal, discussion of what we want to see happen)

§ Dynamic Coalition Meeting

§ Logistics

o How do we get more librarians interested in Internet governance, and the Dynamic Coalition?

2. Beyond Access

o What is Beyond Access?

o How can libraries get involved?

3. How can libraries use the outcomes of the IGF, Dynamic Coalition and Beyond Access to advocate in their own countries?

I would like to invite you to an informal meeting on Monday 13th August in Room 206 11.00am-13.00am. We may not need all of this time, but it will be helpful for an in-depth discussion. Please come prepared to share experiences from your own country!

Could you please let me know if you are able to attend? We have a room for 30 so it will be helpful to have an idea of the numbers.

I look forward to seeing as many of you as possible on the 13th!

Kind regards

Stuart
