Dear Monika

This initiative by EIFL is much appreciated. It is a fact the policy
makers don't understand the potential role of public libraries in the
creation of a knowledge society. This is particularly so in the
developing countries. However, of late in India the government has
initiated a major programme to transform the public libraries. As a
first step in this direction, a National Commission on Libraries, is
about to be set up. Already an ambitious skill development programme
has been launched to upgrade the skills and competencies of public
library staff. There is along way to go....!!!

The EIFL initiative will be of great interest to me, since I am
actively involved in the India initiative, and will be happy to
contribute to the discussions

Warm regards

Jayarajan
