Dear Colleagues

I wanted to draw your attention to the Beyond Access (www.beyondaccess.net) conference which is taking place this week (October 1-3) in Washington DC. IFLA has been an organising partner in this excellent event which is focusing on public libraries and development. Representatives from public libraries and government officials from over 35 countries have come together for two days of workshops and networking designed to introduce library champions to the basics of international development, advance library-government partnerships, and nurture innovative project ideas.

The workshops will be followed by a major conference on Wednesday October 3 for donors, development practitioners and policymakers which is designed to showcase the best in public library services and the role that libraries can play in supporting development. The public library teams in attendance will present innovative projects developed during the conference and the invited attendees will vote to allocate funding so that the best projects can be implemented when the library representatives return home.

Further information on the conference can be found at: http://www.beyondaccess.net/conference2012/ and the event can be followed on Twitter using the hashtage #BA2012

Kind regards,

Stuart
