EIFL’s Public Library Innovation Programme (EIFL-PLIP) has shared results
of two library health services in Africa.

The results are based on research by the libraries, in Ghana and Uganda,
and present interesting information and experiences. Both emphasize the
importance of translating health information into local languages, and
finding creative ways of reaching non-literate people and people without
direct access to technology.

· Northern Regional
Library<http://www.eifl.net/ghana-library-board-northern-regional-library>
(Ghana)
built health workers’ and community ICT capacity, and sent over 3,000 phone
text messages (SMS) to 94 expectant mothers with health information and
reminders about clinic and hospital visits.

· Busolwe Public
Library<http://www.eifl.net/busolwe-public-library-uganda> (Uganda)
provided free ICT training for health workers and the community and
translated information about how to prevent and recognize common illnesses
into the local language, Lunyole.

The services, in Ghana and Uganda, were both supported by EIFL-PLIP.
