Dear Colleagues
Next week (22-25 October ) is the Internet Governance Forum (IGF) in Indonesia. IFLA's new Manager of Digital Projects and Policy, Ellen Broad, IFLA Leaders Associate Margaret Allen and myself will be in attendance on behalf of IFLA and participating in a number of workshops - we will send more information to IFLA-L and other lists in the coming days but I thought you might be interested to know that IFLA is involved in the following IGF events:

You do not have to be in Indonesia to participate! All sessions are webcast and transcripts are available. There are even facilities for you to ask questions to panellists and make comments. Details on remote participation are here: http://www.intgovforum.org/cms/remote-participation
Further to all of this, I wanted to draw your attention to the IGF Dynamic Coalition on Rights and Principles: http://internetrightsandprinciples.org/site/
Their Charter on Internet Rights and Principles is just released: http://internetrightsandprinciples.org/wpcharter/
I think there is a lot which will be interesting for members of IFLA's FAIFE and CLM Committees, and those of us in the community interested in Internet governance and public access to the Internet. There are, of course, references to digital inclusion, freedom of access to information and freedom of expression, and also copyright and licensing.
The Dynamic Coalition organisers are looking for crowdsourcing help to print the Charter and distribute it at the IGF. If you are interested you can visit: http://www.razoo.com/br/causes/Charter-Of-Human-Rights-And-Principles-For-The-Internet-Irp-Coalition-At-The-Un-Internet-Governance-Forum
I hope that some of you will be able to remotely participate in the IGF sessions and bring the library viewpoint to the Internet governance debate! If you need more information on what the IGF is all about please visit IFLA's page on libraries and information society: http://www.ifla.org/information-society
And remember that earlier this year IFLA released its revised position on Internet Governance: http://www.ifla.org/node/7515
More soon and kind regards,
Stuart
