      EIFL update

eLibrary Myanmar - exciting new EIFL project to increase access to 
knowledge

	Access to knowledge in Myanmar will take a big leap forward from 
January 2014 as a result of an important new project, eLibrary Myanmar, 
which will be coordinated by EIFL. For the first time, academics and 
students will gain online access to a comprehensive and 
multi-disciplinary collection of scholarly resources.

      EIFL-Licensing update

Renewal agreement for the Oxford Journals Collection

	EIFL has signed a renewal agreement with Oxford University Press for 
the Oxford Journals Collection. The agreement runs to 31 December 2015 
and is open to members of EIFL-partner consortia in over 40 countries.

Renewal agreement for the Oxford English Dictionary Online and Oxford 
Reference Online

the Oxford English Dictionary Online and Oxford Reference Online. The

Credo Online Reference - 19 extra countries now eligible

	EIFL-partner library consortia, and their members, in an additional 19 
countries can subscribe to the Credo Online Reference Service, Academic 
Core Collection at highly discounted rates from January 2014.


      EIFL-OA update

EIFL partners in new EU project FOSTER

	EIFL is pleased to announce that it is a partner in a new European 
Commission (EC) funded project FOSTER (Facilitate Open Science Training 
for European Research) that will deliver training programmes for 
researchers and other stakeholders. The project will start in February 
2014.

EIFL partners in new EU project PASTEUR4OA

	EIFL is pleased to announce that it is a partner in a new European 
Commission funded project PASTEUR4OA (Open Access Policy Alignment 
Strategies for European Union Research) that will address policymakers 
and will encourage open access policy alignment across Europe to 
simplify compliance for researchers and to adhere to the spirit of the 
European Research Area's harmonisation agenda.

Kenyatta University adopts an OA policy

	Kenyatta University (Kenya) adopts world's 334th open access (OA) 
mandate: OA institutional repository (IR) policy. The policy became the 
fourth OA policy in the country. The EIFL-OA Programme was pleased to be 
a part of OA policy discussions contributing to a workshop to sensitize 
the Kenyatta University Management Board on OA.

UN Day of Persons with Disabilities: breaking legal barriers

	International Day of Persons with Disabilities 2013 was marked with the 
theme "Break Barriers, Open Doors: for an inclusive society and 
development for all". EIFL celebrated the achievement of the Marrkesh 
Treaty that dismantles a major legal barrier for persons with print 
disabilities.

European orphan works examined in EIFL-IP webinar

	The recording and slides from an EIFL-IP webinar on the European orphan 
works Directive are available online.

WIPO starts discussing libraries and archives in earnest

	The 26th session of the WIPO Standing Committee on Copyright and 
Related Rights (SCCR) began discussing in earnest topics in the 
Committee's working paper on libraries and archives, during two days 
devoted to libraries and archives.

	A webinar that was a joint venture between EIFL's FOSS and OA 
programmes is now online and includes a presentation from Bozana Bokan 
(Center for Digital Systems (CeDiS): Open Access/e-Publishing, Freie 
Universität Berlin) who gave an overview of OJS software functions and 
recent and new features.

Empowering disabled library patrons in Malawi and Serbia: two FOSS case 
studies

	Two case studies from the EIFL-FOSS programme are now available online 
which outline how the Malawi National Library Service and National 
Library of Serbia both used FOSS tools to improve the library experience 
for patrons with a print impairment.

	The latest phase of funding for the EIFL-FOSS programme ran from 2010 
to 2013. As the EIFL Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) programme

youth. This exciting opportunity is open to public and community

How a modern library keeps mothers healthy in rural Ghana

	An EIFL Public Library Innovation Programme (PLIP) project that 
connects expecting mothers with needed health information through mobile 
phones was featured in the Impatient Optimist development blog. The 
Northern Regional Library Technology for Maternal Health project was 
implemented to help reduce maternal mortality by improving pregnant 
women's access to vital health information.

Macedonian public library association formed

	Macedonian librarians have formed a new association -- Innova Lib -- to 
promote development of public libraries and innovative public library 
services across the country. The idea for the association was born at a 
national conference supported by EIFL's Public Library Innovation 
Programme (EIFL-PLIP).
