Dear all,
Here's a short DC-PAL update:

DC-PAL session at IFLA WLIC in Columbus
DC-PAL organised a session on public access at IFLA's World Library and Information Congress in Columbus, OH earlier this month. The session had great speakers (thanks all!) and the day after the session we had a business meeting where we discussed some great ideas on the future activities of DC-PAL (thanks again all!)

In short, we talked about collaboration with the newly formed DC on Community Connectivity, raising awareness about regional and national IGFs to get people to attend and promote public access in libraries; and creating a webinar on public access. Since we were at the IFLA conference we also had people from the Public libraries and Metropolitan libraries sections attending, and the aim is that they will be more involved in DC-PAL in the future.

I will make a proper write-up of the session for IFLA's webpage, so I'll share the link when that is published!

If there's anything I've missed, please feel free to share more information with the list.

DC-PAL Draft Paper for DC joint session in Guadalajara
Apart from the DCs' individual sessions at the main (global) IGF in Guadalajara, Mexico 6-9 December, the DCs will also run a joint session. The joint session is planned by the Dynamic Coalitions Coordination Group, whose meetings I usually attend on DC-PAL's behalf. The most recent meeting was today, and we have now decided on the following specifications for the joint session:

  * Number of participating DCs - DCs fulfilling requirement below
  * Time allotted for session - 1.5 hours (TBC)
  * Approx. Main Session room capacity - 500 pax

The requirement to participate is:
"All participating DCs should produce a substantive document as basis for discussions at the IGF so as to allow stakeholders to prepare for their contributions during the IGF beforehand. The result of the discussions within the open DC specific meetings will be the starting point for discussion during the main session, the document itself will provide participants with background reading in advance of the session."

It can be no longer than 5 pages, and the deadline in September 30.

As for the content, it should rather be thought-provoking than an activity report - however it should still be written as an introduction to the DC in question. If you have any ideas on what should be included in the paper about DC-PAL, please e-mail me.

New IGF Website
IGF has been working on a new webpage and it is now online<http://www.intgovforum.org/multilingual/> parallel with the old webpage. The plan is to move over to the new website (time frame unclear, but quite soon).
