Dear all,

We at IFLA wanted to share these great news from Yati Kamil on the development of internet governance and libraries in Indonesia:

The ID-IGF will be run a National Dialogue on November 15th, the theme is Towards Indonesia Digital Sovereignity and Self Sufficiency (www.igf.id<http://www.igf.id>). The material will be uploaded tonight but we have already notify the potential participant represent multi stake holders. If you click contact us you will see the list of MAG. The venue will be at the Ministry of Research and Technology .

To create awareness on Internet Governance Forum among librarians, the Indonesian Library and Information Professionals held a half day seminar last week. Thank’s to our new Director of National Library and his staff for their support on providing the venue and meals. The speakers are from the Ministry of Information, Internet Society –Jakarta Chapter, National Library and Christel Mahnke from Goethe Institute. We asked Christel to focus on IFLA, IGF and Dynamic Coalition of Public Library. 145 librarians included the Director of national Library joined the seminar and it was a dynamic event, opening new horizon on IGF and IFLA (http://www.isipii.org/artikel/urun-rembug-pustakawan-dalam-tata-kelola-internet-di-indonesia).

The coming National Dialogue will cover issues on Infrastructure, Law & Regulation, Social Culture and Economics, from the panels of the librarian will talk on digital literacy, initiative on empowering ICTs to provide access . The Ministry of Information will be the keynote speaker.

I am so pleased that at the end , library profession is recognized and will be able to contribute to the IGF . I took me three years to advocate colleague the importance of IGF and I used materials available in IFLA web as the platform document.

Very inspiring and it’s great to have more libraries on board! If you have similar stories, please share with the list! And don’t miss the DC-PAL session in Guadalajara.

Cheers,
