Dear all,
I wanted to share news and seek views on a couple of issues.
First of all, the Dynamic Coalitions have been asked to set out which new or ongoing projects they will be willing to present at the IGF this year. Having talked with a couple of you, I would propose the following, on which I would welcome any views:
* Highlight the ongoing work a number of DC-PAL members are doing in the context of the IEEE's Internet Inclusion: Advancing Solutions work, aiming to bring together partners from different communities in order to improve public access on the ground.
* IFLA is producing a report on Development and Access to Information (DA2I) this summer, which will look to build up the evidence for access to information (through libraries). Clearly this is close to the public access agenda, and could be drawn upon in order to make the connection between Public Access and the SDGs
* Following on from the Principles on Public Access, agreed at the end of 2015, we could complement these with a set of practical steps that individual actors could take in order to fulfil them, from USF funding and spectrum regulation to practical partnerships between tech companies and libraries. This would require input from the list.
Any views on these, in the next week, would be highly welcome.
Secondly, as part of our work within the IEEE initiative, we are looking to explore the potential to bring together relevant actors working in Tunisia on public access. We are in touch with the library community there, but if any list members are working, or know someone who is working, on public access issues in Tunisia, I would be glad to make contact.
Many thanks,
Stephen
