Dear Coalition members,
I hope this finds you safe and well! We wanted to get in touch to offer a brief update regarding the DC-PAL annual report. The coalition activity report is due on 22 April, and we will be working to put together a document that outlines the joint and individual initiatives of the coalition members over the last 12 months.
The annual report can cover activities within the IGF platform (e.g. the 2019 DC-PAL thematic paper, which was presented during the 2019 session in Berlin), as well as the work of individual coalition members to support and facilitate public access and digital inclusion through libraries. If you would like to have any of the activities you’ve carried out over the last 12 months mentioned in the report, please feel free to get in touch and share these. If you’d like to contribute to the report, we would be happy to get a brief description of the activities you’ve carried out by April 17.
In addition, to follow up on the DC-PAL study on the role of libraries in national broadband plans and policies: as mentioned during the 2019 IGF DC-PAL session, the draft report can be accessed at www.ifla.org/digital-plans<https://www.ifla.org/digital-plans>, and any further feedback is of course welcome at any point!
Moreover, a proposed follow-up for this study is to explore several individual country cases in-depth and see how different digital inclusion policy measures which involve libraries were implemented in practice. If your country is listed in Annex I of the study (https://www.ifla.org/files/assets/hq/publications/the_role_of_libraries_in_national_broadband_plans_and_policies.pdf#page=12), and if you know about any policy measures to improve library connectivity or public access that were implemented as part of the national broadband policy or strategy, we would be happy to hear from you and get in touch. We have already reached out to library sector representatives from the countries covered in the draft report, and of course we would be glad to hear from the coalition members and learn about the experiences of libraries in their countries.
We realise of course that all of you might be very busy at the moment; so the invitations for feedback or suggestions are completely dependent on whether your response to COVID – naturally the key priority – leaves you with an opportunity to offer input!
Thank you, and best wishes,
Valensiya Dresvyannikova
