Dear Rik

Just one point I don't agree with you : Paris is'nt such an expensive city ! It's (far) less expensive that Geneva and much more funny ! And you can really enjoy this fun because -unlike in Geneva- it's affordable.
So please don't worry : you'll be fairly well there. At least I hope so.

PS : I's living in both cities for a couple of years, and enjoyed both ones !

Subject: [WSIS CS-Plenary] Appeal for Intersessional Volunteer Monitors

  14 May 2003

  Dear Friends,

In follow-up to my last message, I wanted to put out an appeal to those who might be attending the Paris intersessional to be the "eyes and ears" for the rest of us. As at the last Prepcom, I am willing to volunteer to coordinate an NGO Monitoring Group for the July meeting if that is acceptable to everyone. However I can not do it alone.

If you or one of your colleagues coming to Paris can work with me on the note-taking, compiling and disseminating of reports from the intersessional, please be in touch with me. I believe this reporting is a critical function for us to play, since I am sure some governments are counting on the fact that much fewer NGOs will be able to attend the intersessional in such an expensive city during the height of the tourist season. The only way all our voices can be heard is if groups around the world know what is going on in a timely manner.

Even if you yourself can not help, if you have ideas or contacts with other groups of students or volunteers who might be able to help in July, please pass along that information to me.

  Regards to all,

    \RE: Paris Intersessional Meeting

The WSIS Intersessional meeting will be held from 15 to 18 July 2003 at UNESCO Headquarters (7, Place de Fontenoy, F-75007 Paris France).

It was unclear until recently what the modalities for NGO participation at the Paris Intersessional meeting on the WSIS were going to be. The WSIS website has just released a document "Information for Participants" (WSIS/PCIP/ADM/1-E ) that makes clear that admission / accreditation is open to "all NGOs, civil society and business entities that were accredited at PrepCom-2. (see WSIS/PC-2/DOC/0009) and to NGOs in consultative status with ECOSOC that participated at PrepCom-1 and/or 2."

The information note promises that the pre-registration information, the provisional agenda, official documents will be available "shortly" on the WSIS website at: http://www.itu.int/wsis/preparatory/prepcom/intersessional/index.html

Since this is during the peak of the tourist seasion, individuals wishing to attend are advised to book accomodations early.
