PORTFOLIO COMMITTEE ON COMMUNICATIONS

Telecommunications Amendment Bill [B65-2003]

The Portfolio Committee on Communications will be dealing with the
Telecommunications Amendment Bill [B65-2003] on 11 November 2003 in Room
M46, Marks Building, Parliament, Cape Town.

Interested parties and industry players are invited to submit written
submissions on the Bill, and also to request an opportunity to make an oral
presentation in writing if they so wish. Such requests and submissions must
reach Me R Schaafsma, Committee Secretary, by no later than 6 November 2003.

The Bill seeks to amend s.43 of the Telecommunications Act so as to give the
powers and assign the duties of a public operator to certain categories of
operator for the purposes of guidelines prescribed by section 43(3), and to
amend s.44 of the Act so as to give the powers and assign the duties of a
public operator to certain categories of operator for the purposes of
guidelines contained in s.44(5) of the Act.
