The subject has already been addressed (and
resolved) in other bodies, so it would be better
just to converge on an already agreed acronym,
which makes things shorter.

Since "free" is ambiguous for people not aware
of the subject ("free" not as "free beer"), the
acronym "libre software" is more and more used,
e.g.:

http://www.egovos.org/nov-2003/

And in order to encompass free/libre software as
well as open-source software, the acronym
"Free/Libre and Open Source Software" (FLOSS)
has been more and more used, e.g. :

http://floss.infonomics.nl/

By defining it once in the text, you can further
reference it as FLOSS, which will save ink and
will help popularize the concept of free software
- as in freedom ! 8^)
