Open secret in DC and beyond, she is actually a terrible SOS, basically a
hack mouthpiece for the White House with no independent ideas or other
purpose than selling and spinning.  Nothing is more painful than watching
her do an interview; "as the president says" starts every other sentence.

Are you kidding?  In a number of recent cases, ambassadors and other
representatives that criticized US stances in international institutions got
pulled and sent home due to behind the scenes pressure.  This is widely
understood and the source of significant consternation in Geneva, and I
suspect it happens in New York too.  Plus there's carrots to go with the
sticks; witness the Romanian government's response on renditions.  Nothing
to look at here, move along...
