[WSIS CS-Plenary] "mobcasting" from the Harvard blogging conference

Hi everyone,

Ethan Zuckerman and I are "mobcasting" from the Harvard blogging
conference today: posting audio podcasts from our mobile phones to a
group blog. It's a small-scale experiment in the mobcasting concept,
which I've been wondering about as a tool for WSIS. The idea is to
create a blog in which all CS delegates can post audio blogs (podcasts)
by calling a telephone number and leaving a voicemail message that then
gets converted into an MP3 file and posted on a blog. It would allow
delegates who don't have their own blogs to still post audio commentary
onto a blog that can be accessed around the world.

There are many technical challenges to overcome - getting it to work
outside of the US (you have to dial a US phone number), feasibility of
doing it with open source tools rather than the ones I'm using, etc. But
it might be worth exploring. It's yet another reason I hope we can
organize a face-to-face meeting at the next Prepcom about online
communications strategies, and perhaps a conference call or virtual
conference prior to the prepcom to talk about these issues.... -ac
