I agree fully with that sentiment.

Those who do not learn from the mistakes of the past are bound to
repeat them, so unfortunately it seems that this discussion was quite
necessary.

When leaving away the rhethorics and attempts at discrediting those
who were playing the unfortunate role of messenger, what remains is a
quite clear picture of the facts. That raising legitimate questions
creates such an immediate and at time violent response instead of
seeking for ways of addressing them is also quite interesting.

So for me the discussion has indeed greatly clarified some things.

But I agree with you that continuing the discussion in this form on
this forum will not get any constructive results, which is why I
deliberately stopped writing on Tuesday (IIRC).

And even though it is tempting to point out the problems with the
latest mails, I will resist that temptation and not go back into the
discussion.

I will however gladly discuss this in private with anyone who is
interested. Later today I'll be on my plane to Porto Alegre to
participate in the World Social Forum and to participate in a session
about

Digital Revolution: Knowledge Sharing x Imprisonment on Information Society
 28 Jan, 15:30am - 18:30am, Room: A105

with people from the Brazilian government and the Free Software
movement, as well as Yochai Benkler, Professor of Law at Yale.

Please feel free to get in touch.

Regards,
Georg
