UNESCO meeting on Cultural Diversity Convention ends with broad agreement
The Third and final session of the Intergovernmental Meeting on the draft UNESCO Convention on Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions finished its work on June 3rd. The result was widely seen as a defeat for the United States which opposed acceptance of the final draft text. The text, which was approved by representatives of 130 States will be presented at the UNESCO General Conference for discussion and possible approval in October 2005.

Derechos de Comunicación en Incomunicado 05
La semana pasada una conferencia en Ámsterdam reunió a muchos activistas de la información y críticos a fin de comentar el discurso de "desarrollo de la información". Temas del evento del Incomunicado fueron desde multi-participación de entidades involucradas en la CMSI hasta política global de economías de la información. Asimismo, fue al ser la congregación más grande de gente involucrada interna y externamente en la CMSI brindo un perspectiva critica de la "gran figura".

CRIS at Incommunicado 05
CRIS Info Communication rights at incommunicado.05 A conference in Amsterdam last week brought together many info-activists and critical intellectuals for reflections on the "information for development" discourse. Themes of the "Incommunicado" event ranged from multi-stakeholderism at WSIS to the global political economy of information. It also was the largest gathering of people involved inside and outside the WSIS that provided a critical look at "the big picture".

Canadian Civil Society Communique
This consensus statement was adopted by Canadian civil society groups representing a diverse range of peoples, backgrounds, expertise, and perspectives. The group of 200 people met in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, on 13-15 May 2005 at a conference entitled "Paving the Road to Tunis"

WSIS and UK Civil Society
On 24th May the British Council organised a consultation meeting between Civil Society and the UK Government in the run up to the World Summit in the Information Society. CRIS members joined in the consultation as the UK was preparing to take over the presidency of the European Union in early July.

Del 8 al 10 de junio se realizó en Río de Janeiro la Reunión Regional de América Latina y Caribe preparatoria de la segunda fase de la Cumbre Mundial de la Sociedad de la Información que se desarrollará en Tunes en noviembre de este año. La Declaración de Río de Janeiro y el Plan de Acción, los dos documentos oficiales aprobados en la Conferencia, reiteran el compromiso de crear "una sociedad de la información inclusiva" y reafirman la participación social como indispensable para su construcción.
