WORLD SUMMIT AWARD (WSA) - SOUTH AFRICAN COMPETITION

The World Summit Award (WSA) is a global initiative to select and promote
the world's best e-Content and Creativity. It is held within the framework
of and in cooperation with the United Nations World Summit on the
Information Society (WSIS).
With a special focus on cultural identity and diversity, the competition
seeks to highlight the best digital content from each country, emphasising
content that promotes the development of an "Information Society." It aims
not only to make the benefits of the new "Information Society" accessible
and meaningful for all humanity, but in particular to raise public awareness
and give deserved public recognition to the highest quality e-Content
produced all over the world.
WSA covers the following 8 categories:
* e-Learning;
* e-Culture;
* e-Science;
* e-Government;
* e-Health;
* e-Business,
* e-Entertainment;
* e-Inclusion.
The WSA in South Africa is the first competition of its kind in the country
emphasizing the importance of content in bridging the digital divide. The
main aim and purpose of organizing this competition is to recognise,
encourage and further disseminate South Africa's best e-Content practices
and products.
The evaluation criteria will be based on the following key issues:
* the quality and comprehensiveness of content;
* ease of use;
* functionality, navigation and orientation;
* value added through interactivity and multimedia;
* attractiveness of design;
* quality of craftsmanship;
* strategic importance to the millennium development goals (MDGs) and WSIS.

SANGONeT is coordinating the South African WSA process and will involve
various online content experts in reviewing the nominations.
The South African winners in each category will be entered in the
international competition.
The international winners will be announced at the WSA Gala, taking place in
Tunis, Tunisia, on 16 November 2005, during the Second Phase of the World
Summit on the Information Society (WSIS).
To participate, please complete and submit the Entry Form which is available
on the SANGONeT website - www.sangonet.org.za.
The closing date for South African nominations is Tuesday, 26 July 2005.
