Good to see this support. Mr. Cave. What makes this latest WIPO
intrusion most irritating is that trademark owners already have an
extremely friendly dispute resolution process (the UDRP) that will take
care of cases of deceiving or defrauding customers. To ask for something
piled on top of this, an "in advance," pre-emptive powers over an unused
name space is to take trademark into broad new areas.
This means of course that no one could register the word "apple" in any
TLD because of Apple Computer (and of courss it ignores the fact that
there might be 20-30 trademark holders who have registered rights in the
term "apple." It's a power grab, nothing more.

I strongly endorse Milton's call to arms. The very essence of
trademark
protection is that it is acquired through active use of a named
identity
and extends no further than the active market in which it is used.
