On August 26, 2006, the Government of Liberia lunched the National Human Development Report. This Report presents many challenges for the future of the Country (Liberia). During the program, the head of the United Nations Mission in Liberia (UNMIL) said poor governance; weak institutions; devastated infrastructure and persistent poverty are legacy of the past in Liberia
More beside, the National Human Development Report 2006, mobilizing capacity for reconstruction and development, is the first report after more than a dozen years of bloody conflict, especially since the election of President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf last year. Liberia Governments ability to rebuild the Nation is seriously hampered by a lack of properly trained and motivated public servants according to UNDP
Written by some independent consultants, it gauges the toll of violent conflict on human development and offers practical solution on the ways the Government can meet its immediate and long-term development needs.
The document also details some bright spots, such as a Government measure called TOKEN, or Transfer of knowledge through Expatriate Nationals. This program brings qualified Liberian professionals living overseas back home for short visites to share their skill.
