Dear all,

Following a short informal meeting held on 25 January with Charles Geiger,
WSIS Executive Director, to clarify some issues on the up-coming steps to
WSIS, please find below some points you might find of interest.

We were confirmed that the WSIS Executive Secretariat will be maintained in
the post-Summit period, even though its size will be reduced. Its main
mandate will be to coordinate/facilitate multi-stakeholder implementation
and stocktaking, but also to maintain close interaction with WSIS
stakeholders, in particular with civil society. This implies that the list
of contacts is now up-dated on-line
(http://www.itu.int/wsis/contact/index.html), the events calendar will be
completed, the Newsletter E-Flash will be published.

We also got some information about up-coming meetings on international
implementation mechanisms.

On the ITU Reform Meeting (1 February 2006, ITU, Geneva), we were confirmed
that this meeting is open only to ITU members as of now, but CONGO will push
so that this meeting will be more inclusive for civil society.

In line with paragraphs 108-109 of the Tunis Agenda, ITU, UNESCO and UNDP
will convene a multi-stakeholder consultation on implementation at the
international level on 24 February 2006 (Palais des Nations, Geneva). On the
agenda: list of moderators/facilitators on action lines, nature of the
coordination process, its inputs, modalities and logistics. More information
and invitations might be made available soon on the WSIS-ES website
www.itu.int/wsis/implementation.

For your information, we have posted on the website
www.csbureau.org/posttunis.htm, a calendar of UN related activities for the
implementation of WSIS outcome provisions. Do not hesitate to contact us for
any additional event.

Three additional points:

- Dr. Georges Padadatos confirmed that the consultation on the
preparation of the IGF Athens meeting will take place on 15 February in
Geneva (probably at the CONGO offices, Place des Nations, time to be
confirmed).

- As you may know, CONGO, due to its mandate to strengthen Civil
Society in the UN system and as interface to ECOSOC, was invited by UNCTAD
to participate in a very informal preliminary brainstorming to exchange
views on the future role of the ECOSOC Commission on Science and Technology
for Development. Some of you already sent us you comments in this regard.
Please continue to send ideas and contributions to Renate or to
wsis at ngocongo.org.
