Objet : FW: WSIS Implementation: Invitation by UNDP for two Action Line
Facilitation meetings on 11 May

To all Missions in Geneva

(and the Missions in NY without Mission in Geneva)

Dear Sir/Madam

On behalf of UNDP I would like to forward the the following invitation to
your Mission:

"UNDP would like to invite all WSIS stakeholders (Governments and
International Organizations, as well as civil society and business entities
that were active in the WSIS-process) to participate in the first
consultations that it will be facilitating, in its capacity of "provisional
focal point"* for facilitation of Action Line 4 and 6 of the Geneva Plan of
Action of the World Summit on the Information Society, on May 11th May 2006.

The meetings will be held in Room K2 in ITU’s in Montbrillant Building in
Geneva as follows:
Action line C4: Capacity building. ITU, Montbrillant building, Room K2,
10h00 - 13h00. This meeting is open to all WSIS stakeholders.
Registration Form
<http://www.itu.int/wsis/implementation/c4-c6/may-11/registration-form.doc>
Action line C6: Enabling environment. ITU, Montbrillant building, Room K2,
15h00 - 18h00. This meeting is open to all WSIS stakeholders.
Registration Form
<http://www.itu.int/wsis/implementation/c4-c6/may-11/registration-form.doc>
The meetings will seek to provide an opportunity to discuss ways to not only
enhance collaboration and information sharing among diverse stakeholders to
contribute to effective multi-stakeholder implementation but also seek to
identify some priority areas for enhanced focus.

We realize that this is short notice and that many stakeholders will not be
able to be in Geneva for two weeks in a row or at all. We apologize for the
short notice and look forward to receiving virtual inputs as well as using
the forthcoming meeting to explore ideas for how the action line teams might
organize their work, facilitation and add value to cooperation and
implementation efforts on the ground.

We look forward to your contributions and to productive discussions. The
provisional agenda for the meetings will be shared shortly."

Please see <http://www.itu.int/wsis/implementation/index.html> for
provisional focal points
* co-facilitators for Action Line C4:  UNDP, UNESCO/ITU/UNCTAD/[UN
DESA/FAO/UNIDO]
* co-facilitators for Action Line C6:  ITU/UNDP/UN REGIONAL
COMMISSIONS/UNCTAD/[UN DESA/UNIDO/APC]

The provisonal Agenda for the meeting will be shortly on the WSIS website at
http://www.itu.int/wsis/implementation/c4-c6/index.html .

I take the opportunity to flag the cluster of WSIS-related events taking
place between 9 and 19 May. The above mentioned UNDP meeting is the first
meeting in a series of Action Line Facilitation meetings that will take
place around the World Information Society Day. More information on this
cluster of events is at

http://www.itu.int/wsis/implementation/wisd/index.html. The cluster includes
also a Global Symposium on Promoting the multilingual Internet, organized by
ITU and UNESCO from 9-11 May, a second round of consultations on the
convening of the Internet Governance Forum on 19 May, and, in the middle of
the week, on 17 May morning, the World Information Society Day Ceremony.
Missions have received a special invitation by the Secretary-General of ITU,
Mr. Yoshio Utsumi, for this ceremony.

The different Action Line Facilitation meetings, the consultations on the
convening of the Internet Governance Forum as well as the World Information
Society Day Ceremony are open to delegates with a UNOG badge. Delegates from
capitals without UNOG badge would need to register for the first meeting
they would like to attend. There is a common badge for all Action Line
Facilitation meetings, which is also valid for the World Information Society
Day Ceremony and for the consultations on the Internet Governance Forum. The
badge provided for the first meeting is afterwards valid for all other
meetings. More information on badging procedures is at the same page
mentioned above: http://www.itu.int/wsis/implementation/wisd/index.html .

Please feel free to contact me (022 730 6375) or my assistant Isabelle
Asencio (022 730 6316) if you have any question.

Sincerely yours

Charles Geiger
Executive Director WSIS
