conference on Global Leadership & Governance of Standards for ICT in
Learning, Education & Training that we are organising in March (more
information below).

I hope you or a colleague can attend (it is free but numbers are limited).
There are opportunities to contribute via papers, presentations and
workshops.

Global Leadership & Governance of Standards for ICT in Learning, Education &
Training
 
A conference is to be held on March 19th 2007 at the Institute of Education,
London.
 
Conference focus: The future stewardship, or governance, of International
Standards for Learning, Education & Training in general and, in particular,
the Sharable Content Object Reference Model (SCORM), as it is transitioned
from its creators to its new international steward.
 
The conference is being run in association with the Department for Education
and Skills England (DfES), the US Advanced Distributed Learning Initiative
(ADL - the developers of SCORM), ISO/IEC JTC1 SC36 (the international
standards committee), the British Standards Institution (BSI), the Institute
of Education (London), the Schools Interoperability Framework Association
and the CEN/ISSS Learning Technologies Workshop.
 
Keynote speakers will include:
* Dr Robert Wisher, Director of ADL, on the future stewardship of SCORM
* Bruce Peoples, Chair of SC36, on future directions of the ISO/IEC
committee 
* Dr Abdul Waheed Khan, UNESCO Assistant Director-General for Communication
and Information 
* Diana Laurillard (former head of the DfES e-strategy group now of London
Knowledge Lab) on collaboration between standards bodies and education
* A senior DfES speaker (to be confirmed)
 
There will also be presentations, case studies, and talks by representatives
of the main international standards and specifications organisations for
e-learning.
 
Conference themes include:
* Quality Standards particular to 'e-learning'
* Accessibility provisions across standards
* Intellectual Property in standards - issues and approaches
* Business Models for standards governance and support
* Collaboration between education and standards-makers
* e-Portfolios - local needs versus global interoperability
 
The event will be held at the Institute of Education in central London,
which is convenient for transport and accommodation.
 
Be part of the debate ­ submit a paper for the proceedings, offer to speak
or just register to come along

The organisers are also hosting, on behalf of the UK national standard¹s
body BSI, the upcoming meeting of ISO/IEC JTC1 SC36 from 11th to 16th March
2007. SC36 is the International Standards committee for standards for ICT in
learning, education & training and includes 29 national bodies with many of
them participating in the Global Learning and Governance conference.
