That is a revealing document : Sarbuland Khan just invite the CS to promote the private sector interests (cf the firts alinea of your report).
No, many thanks : this isn't my cup of tea !
BTW : The CS Plenary never debated about CS adhering to GAID nor did it discuss how and under which conditions CS should rally this new machinery, mostly controlled by the private sector and some UN sponsors.

  Dear all, 

   

  Please find attached the short informal summary of a meeting which took place in Dresden on 16 January 2007, at the invitation of the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

   

  This meeting was meant to gather European stakeholders who have been involved so far in the activities of the Global Alliance for ICT and Development (UN GAID), in preparation for the next GAID Strategy Council and Steering Committee meetings (27-28 February 2007, Silicon Valley, USA).

   

  The meeting actually gathered around 30 persons, and mostly consisted in an exchange of information concerning on going initiatives and up coming meetings related to the activities of the Global Alliance. Among the main outcomes of this meeting, we must underline the establishment of the Europe network inside GAID. 

   

  To that end, it was suggested to establish a GAID Europe website with the view to gather and publish all proposals and initiatives related to the GAID and provide a space for information exchange and interaction.

   

  In addition, a Mission Statement of the GAID Europe network might be completed in the perspective of the February 2007 Strategy Council meeting. I have been asked to participate in the drafting process. You can find some elements on the initial ideas shared about the role of this network at the end of the attached summary.

   

  Please send me your comments and contributions on your views of the role of this network. I'll keep you updated about the up coming developments of the drafting process and on the preparations for the February Strategy Council meeting.
