Dear colleagues and friends
I have the pleasure to inform you that the the United Nations Group on the
Information Society (UNGIS) will hold Open Consultations on Financial
Mechanisms for Meeting the Challenges of ICT for Development, to be held
on 8-9 October 2009, in Geneva, Switzerland. This meeting is organized
jointly by UNGIS chair and co-chairs, i.e. ITU, UNCTAD, UNESCO, UNDP,
UNECA and hosted by the ITU.
Pursuant to ECOSOC resolution 2008/3 which called for UNGIS to organise
this consultations, the meeting will provide an opportunity for an
interactive multi-stakeholder dialogue on matters related to the
implementation of part B of the Tunis Agenda, i.e. Financial Mechanisms
for Meeting the Challenges of ICT for Development. The meeting will be
open to representatives from government and international organizations as
well as from civil society and the private sector. No accreditation is
needed (similar to the meetings during the WSIS Forum week)
More information is available at the the following webpage of UNGIS:
http://www.ungis.org/Default.aspx?tabid=621 . This webpage carries also
a link for registration and to the invitation letter. Registration is
free of cost. Be reminded that the meeting takes place at PALEXPO (the
Geneva Exposition Center near the Airport, where the WSIS Geneva Summit
took place in 2003), during the last two days of the ITU TELECOM World (5
to 9 October 2009, see http://www.itu.int/WORLD2009/ ).
There is no need to be registered for TELECOM World to participate in the
Open Consultations. But as both events are taking place at the same
premises, you will need a badge to enter PALEXPO, therefore please
register through the link on the UNGIS website mentioned above. ITU may
offer participants at the UNGIS Open Consultations the possibility to
visit the Telecom World Exhibition at a reduced rate or free of cost. The
decision on reduced rates or free access to the exhibition is still
pending, and we shall inform you (through this mailing list) as soon as
ITU has taken a decision.
With best regards
Charles Geiger
