National Radio Meet in Pune, India

Organized by the Symbiosis Institute of Media and Communication (SIMC) 

of Symbiosis International University (SIU) 19th and 20th September, 2009

  



The National Radio Meet is a unique event that brings together top professionals and practitioners in the radio industry together on one common platform. It is an attempt to bring the very best in the world of radio to talk and interact; recognize issues and analyze the current situations and trends prevalent in the industry today.

The Symbiosis Institute of Media and Communication (SIMC) has always aspired to be more than just a media school. It has pioneered events like Footprints, Fest O Comm, the Digit-All Movement, the National Cyber Media Conclave and many more that gives its students an edge in an increasingly competitive environment today. NRM is another such feather in the cap of SIMC as it moves forward to becoming the most enterprising and entrepreneurial Institute, providing holistic media education in the country.

Introduced last year as an SIMC annual property, NRM has already become one of the most awaited events of the year through which students and budding professionals seek to exchange with stalwarts as they step into new careers. From its fledgling stage NRM wishes to grow this year, probing every aspect of the radio industry. The themes to be covered over the course of the two- day event are as follows:

1.      Existing revenue streams and the possibility of exploring new sources for the radio industry.

2.      Growing opportunities in the field of Social and Developmental Communication using radio as an instrument for change. 

3.      Existing brand strategies and re -branding options available to radio stations today.

4.      Regional radio flavours and content diversification in the industry today.

Like last year, the national radio meet was organized by the Symbiosis Institute of Media and Communication (SIMC), a constituent of Symbiosis International University (SIU), where top professionals from the radio stations, development organizations and university met together with a view to exchanging views to bring the best in the world of radio.

 

In the radio meet continued on 19th and 20th September, issues regarding revenue streams and the possibility of exploring new sources for the radio industry, growing opportunities in the field of social and developmental communication using radio as an instrument for change, existing brand strategies and re-branding options available to radio stations, regional radio flavours and content diversification in the industry today were focused. 

 

Sheikh Mohammad Shafiul Islam, Assistant Professor, department of Communication and Media Studies, University of Development Alternative (UODA) attended and addressed the meet moderated by Professor Ujjwal Kumar Choudhury, Dean, Symbiosis International University and Director, SIMC. Mr. Islam detailed on various development issues in light of Bangladesh experience where radio can play effective role of a 'change maker'. 

 

In the meet, some other radio experts and top professionals from various radio channels spoke and detailed on the radio industry in different parts of India. Among them, Ashmatuddin Mulla, a FRIIian, Sanjeev Kr.  Singh, Chief Administrator, Radio Dhoom, Gina Braganza from myopusradio.com, Vineet Singh Hukmani, Managing  Director, Radio One, Monica Nayyar patnaik, Director, eastern media limited et. al. discussed on various aspects of radio industry today and radio for development.  

 

On the second day of the meet, the 'Symbi' campus radio of SIMC was launched with a view to serving both the students of the campus and its adjacent community people. Dr. Vidya Yeravdekar, Principal Director, SIU and Member, University Grants Commission, New Delhi was also present in the event and addressed the meet.
