UNESCO declared February 13 as World of Radio
The initiative was promoted by the Spanish Academy of Radio with the support from 
Bangladesh NGOs Network for Radio and Communication(BNNRC) 

Unesco adopted during the celebration of its thirty-sixth general conference the establishment of 13 February as World Day of Radio, an initiative that had been promoted by the Spanish Academy of Radio. 
The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) said its committee of communication in this conference adopted the proclamation on the basis of a feasibility study conducted by the agency and upon the proposal launched four years ago.
"The purpose of celebrating the new World Day is to raise awareness on the importance of radio, facilitate access to information through this and improve networking among broadcasters, "he said in that note. The text included a tribute to all scientists who have helped make possible the radio phenomenon as well as special mention of the role of broadcasters and community radio. 
The Academy of Arts and Sciences Radio of Spain proposed at the outset that the chosen date was 30 October, the day of historic radio broadcast War of the Worlds, Orson Welles. However, the director general of UNESCO, Irina Bokova, suggested to be held on February 13, as the day it was created in 1946 United Nations Radio, and finally the the date chosen for the new memorial.
