German Government Lauds Cooperation with Civil Society
Debriefing from "Intersessional" in Paris available, Comments Wanted

Berlin, 26 July 2003. The German government has published its internal
debriefing from the "Intersessional" meeting in Paris. In it, the slow
progress of negotiations is lamented, but cooperation with civil society
is applauded. "Opening the German governmental delegation proved as
unproblematic in practice and was perceived within and outside the
EU-framework as a clear German commitment to an inclusive approach of
the summit", the report by the ministry of economics and labour from 25
July says. Before the third PrepCom conference in September, there will
be another meeting with civil society and the private sector, the
accompanying letter makes clear. In Paris, German government delegates
announced their plans to produce a common German position within this
framework until the summit. Currently, the German government is asking
for written statements (half a page each) on the contested issue areas.
These will be fed into the further intersessional process within the EU
and in Geneva before PrepCom3.
