dear all,
I would like to make a request regards use of these lists - particularly
with respect nomination of speakers for the Summit, for the rest of this week.
We would like to be able to use this space - the virtual plenary - to
discuss with you - strategic issues regards Civil Society's position in
relation to the WSIS process, in preparation for the Summit - how we will
express it, in which formats etc. It is becoming clearer and clearer, that
our 'non-negotiables' will not be met and for many of us here, discussing
our next steps needs to be prioritised, and quickly.
This would mean - clearing this space - if at all possible to begin such
discussions. There is simply too much traffic on this list to discuss any
issue, in any substantive manner at the moment.
Two points i want to raise:
(1) Meryem Marzouki raised some important issues regards process for
nomination of speakers, which have not been addressed, and which impact
directly i feel, on the potential impact of our involvement in general
plenary debates.
** She is about to post a proposal regards criteria for general plenary
speakers which i will certainly support (but unfortunately she is having
trouble sending mail at the moment ;). But, please expect this soon.
**
(2) I would like to suggest that we mandate the ct-speakers list, which
includes reps of regional caucuses and some working groups, to prepare a
synthesis of any discussion regards process issues, and speaker
nominations, and report back here by thursday. We need to submit a final
list by the 15th, if i'm not mistaken. **
If people are still moved to nominate speakers, i suggest they write
directly to ct-speakers at wsis-cs.org, though time is up as far as i'm aware.
A last point of information: sub-groups are working here in geneva on two
important documents for Civil Society. The CT at wsis-cs.org list is the space
we are using to update on that process.
-- refinement of our 'non-negotiables'
-- taking forward work begun in prepcomIII on the Civil Society
alternative/visionary document
If you would like to be involved in those discussions, you will need to be
subscribed to the CT list - we are not posting that work to
plenary at wsis.org. Please write me - karenb at apcwomen.org - if you need to be
subscribed.
best to all from a very hard working team in geneva.
karen
