THETHA - THE SANGONeT ICT DISCUSSION FORUM
Organised by SANGONeT and the Open Knowledge Network
"ICT Policy Organisations and Processes"
11 February 2004
There are many official organisations and processes around policy on
Information & Communications Technology (ICT) and it all can be quite
confusing for anyone who would like to become involved in these initiatives.
Do you know your acronyms - PNC-ISAD, GCIS MPCC, USA,DoC, Convergence,
ICASA, WSIS, etc.?
This meeting will seek to explain the range of national ICT organisations
and processes, and work towards a network for
sharing information between civil society organisations to become more
engaged in this regard. The aim is to exchange information, and if possible,
coordinate fuller involvement of civil society organisations in ICT
processes.
The focus of the meeting will be based on the findings of a research project
which was funded by the Netherlands institute for Southern Africa (NiZA),
and coordinated by the Freedom of Expression Institute (FXI) and National
Community Radio Forum (NCRF).
The meeting will also include feedback from the World Summit on the
Information Society (WSIS) which was held from 10-12
December 2003 in Geneva, Switzerland.
DATE: Wednesday, 11 February 2004
TIME: 09h00 13h00
VENUE: Classroom F, LINK Centre, Campus of Wits
Business School, cnr St Andrews & St Davids Road, Parktown,
Johannesburg.
Background documentation will be circulated to interested organisations.
