Objet : Consultations on the establishment of the Working Group on
Internet Governance

Dear Ms Bloem,
Dear Mr Hill,

I have the pleasure to inform you that the Secretariat of the Working
Group
on Internet Governance (WGIG) is now set up and has begun to be
operational.

As outlined at the PrepCom in Hammamet, one of our priorities is to make
sure that the process ahead of us is as open, inclusive and transparent
as
possible. To this end, the Secretariat is organizing consultations with
Governments and all other stakeholders in the WSIS on the establishment
of
the WGIG, its structure and working methods as well as the scope of its
work.

The meeting will take place on 20 / 21 September 2004 in Room XVIII, at
the
Palais des Nations, Geneva. Interpretation in all UN languages will be
provided. The meeting will be open to representatives of International
Organizations, as well as to participants from NGOs, civil society and
business entities accredited to the WSIS.

Governments and all stakeholders are encouraged to submit written
electronic contributions on this subject until 13 September to:
wgig at unog.ch . More information on this meeting including the draft
agenda
will be made available in due course on the WGIG website, which is under
construction. A link to the WGIG website will be provided from the WSIS
Executive Secretariat site at http://www.itu.int/wsis/ .

I remain at your disposal should you wish to arrange for a briefing
prior
to the meeting in September.

Yours sincerely

Markus Kummer
Executive Coordinator
Secretariat of the Working Group on Internet Governance (WGIG)
