APC's new "Community Wireless Connectivity" project: Starting work in Africa
APC's latest initiative is looking to connect communities who don't yet have internet access by skilling them to build their own wireless networks. The project covers the development of training materials in English, French and Arabic and workshops that will be adapted for different environmental, regulatory and climatic conditions. With four regional workshops in Africa in 2005, we'll be training up to 100 possible future trainers. Plans are also afoot in Latin America and Asia-Pacific. - APCNews

BBC to launch world's largest online multimedia archive
The BBC Creative Archives Project, first announced by the former BBC Director-General Greg Dyke at the Edinburgh TV Festival in August 2003, is set to be launched very soon. Through this initiative, millions of hours worth of radio and 500,000 television records will be made available online allowing people to download multimedia clips for non-commercial use.

U.S. ignores public interest at World Intellectual Property Organization
WASHINGTON - Free Press, the nonpartisan media reform group, today endorsed a series of proposed reforms to the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), a U.N. organization whose mission is to "promote the protection of intellectual property throughout the world."
