(here's a copy my quick notes from this morning's meeting)
Agenda Items
- Review of yesterday's CS briefing session
- Report from the Civil Society Bureau
- Bureau-Bureau meeting for Feb 17 has been announced. Time will be
14:00 to 14:45
- Proposal of creation of CS Arab Caucus
This discussion became a bit heated as the ones suggesting the
creation of the arab caucus were from LTDH (Tunisia). The Tunisian
other CS groups at the plenary (those with well known links to the
Tunisian Government) of course had to respond. Before things got too
heated the chair intervened to leave it up to the different groups to
come to a consensus so that they don't take up precious plenary time.
Key topics for this prepcom and the summit.
There were several interventions stating the importance for Civil
Society to start formulating what the priorities are to mention at
the press conference.
1. Multi-stakeholder principle - Still a struggle and needs to be
developed further not only @ WSIS but other spaces as well
2. Financial Mechanisms
3. Working Group on Internet Governance
4. Summit - Preparations, logistics for summit, privacy & security
concerns (information and security working group).
5. Human Rights and Social Justice - let's make sure that the WSIS
isn't just about infrastructure , but also has a human element to it.
Key concerns about Human rights and Social justice are what NGOs are
all about and should be reiterated.
The meeting was also archived, and is available online @ the following URL:
