*UNESCO to Hold Conference on Free Expression in Cyberspace*
13-01-2005 (UNESCO)UNESCO is hosting an international conference in 
Paris next month on "Freedom of Expression in Cyberspace," which will 
provide a forum for discussing whether universal free expression 
standards should be applied to the Internet and how free expression can 
be protected while respecting individual privacy, national laws and 
cultural differences. Scheduled to take place from 3 to 4 February 2005 
at UNESCO's headquarters, the conference is one of UNESCO's thematic 
meetings contributing to the preparation of the second phase of the 
World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS). It will gather prominent 
figures from the international sphere, civil society groups, scholars in 
the field, journalists and other media professionals, and government 
officials from all regions of the world who deal with Internet-related 
issues.

Panel sessions will follow a keynote speech, followed by interventions 
from panellists and a general debate open to participants. 
Interpretation in English and French will be provided during the meeting.

*L’UNESCO accueillera prochainement une conférence sur la libre 
d’expression dans le cyberespace*
13-01-2005 (UNESCO)Le mois prochain, l’UNESCO accueillera à Paris une 
conférence internationale sur “La liberté d’expression dans le 
cyberespace". Cette conférence offre un forum de discussions concernant 
l’application de normes universelles sur la libre expression à 
l’Internet ainsi que les moyens de protéger la libre expression tout en 
respectant la vie privée de chaque individu, les législations nationales 
et les différences culturelles. La conférence, qui se tiendra les 3 et 4 
février 2005 au Siège de l’UNESCO, représente l’une des réunions 
thématiques de l’UNESCO dans le cadre de la préparation de la seconde 
phase du Sommet Mondial sur la Société de l’Information (SMSI). Elle 
réunira des personnes éminentes de la sphère internationale, des groupes 
de la société civile, des intellectuels du hors siège, des journalistes 
et d’autres professionnels des médias, ainsi que des hauts 
fonctionnaires de toutes les régions du monde ayant trait aux questions 
relatives à l’Internet.

La réunion débutera par un discours liminaire, suivi des diverses 
sessions, des interventions de panélistes et d’un débat générique ouvert 
aux participants. Une interprétation en anglais et en français sera 
fournie durant toute la réunion.
