[WSIS CS-Plenary] Extended deadline for merging side events requests - 25 july 2005

Dear All:

Since the "Thematic list of CS side events in Tunis" currently available on 
the web does not reflect the submission of merged proposals yet, I would 
like to share the attached information on the "2nd Global Forum on 
Disability in the Information Sciety" submitted on 14th July by DAISY 
Consortium and BASMA jointly on behalf of the WSIS Disability Caucus based 
on the decisions of the Disability Caucus during PrepCom2 in Geneva.
With this submission, events No.102 and 123 in the list are merged into one
to be held on 15th and 17th November in Tunis with 200 participants.

Second Global Forum on Disability in the Information Society,



EVENT DESCRIPTION





The DAISY Consortium organized the first Global Forum on Disability in the 
Information Society as part of the parallel events of the first phase of the 
World Summit on the Information Society which was held in Geneva in december 
2003.

The second phase of the World Summit on the Information Society will be held 
in Tunis in 16-18 November 2005 and  will be an excellent opportunity to 
raise awareness on the fact that people with disabilities will get best 
benefit from ICT just like other community members only if equal 
participation in ICT development from design stage through implementation, 
monitoring and evaluation is guaranteed.



This proposal seeks to have a joint venture composed by the DAISY Consortium 
and the « Association BASMA pour la Promotion de l'Emploi des Handicapés », 
organize the second Global forum on Disability in the Information Society, a 
part of the parallel events of the second phase of WSIS.



* This Forum proposal is submitted based on :

- The decision of the WSIS Civil Society Disability Caucus since the DAISY 
Consortium is serving as the Disability Focal Point.

- A strong will of the « Association BASMA pour la Promotion de l'Emploi des 
Handicapés » to contribute to all efforts to reduce the digital divide 
between Persons with disabilities and the General Public.



* The objectives of this Forum are to:

- Promote simultaneous accessibility to information and communications 
worldwide,

- Share the knowledge of best practices ICT for Persons with Disabilities 
and the General Public,



* The Second Global Forum on Disability in the Information Society will be a 
two days forum with sessions relating to accessibility to Information and 
Communication Technology (ICT) from a global perspective.



* The forum will be organized as follows :

Day 1 (15 November 2005) : Panel 1,

Session 1 : Presentation of Best Practices of Assistive ICT and ICT for All
Session 2 : Thematic Session on Disaster Reduction/Preparedness for Persons 
with Disabilities and the General Public; the critical role of ICT 
development
Day 2 (17 November 2005) : Panel 2,

Session 1 : Global Panel of Persons with Disabilities on equal partnership 
for ICT Development for All to be conducted by the initiatives of 
International Disability Alliance (IDA)

Session 2 : Adoption of Resolution for the timeline, implementation, 
monitoring and evaluation of the WSIS Action Plan



* Two hundred participants including people with various disabilities.



* Requirements for the event is accessibility for both physical 
accessibility as well as

information and communications accessibility. The details of requirements 
will be given through the registration process.



* The Second Global Forum on Disability in the Information Society is 
organized in collaboration with those concerned organizations including :

-        International Disability Alliance

-        Réseau des Associations des  Personnes Handicapées en Tunisie 
(RAPHT).

-        ITU / BDT

-        Workability Europe/International

-        GLADNET

We received the confirmation today from the WSIS Executive Secretariat that
the deadline for announcing initiatives to merge side-events has been
extended until 25 July. In this regard, please find attached the latest
amended list of side events requests classified by thematic clusters.



Lastly, let me reiterate you that the Informal Open-ended Consultations on
Internet Governance (20 July 2005, 10.00-13.00), convened by Ambassador
Masood Khan, Chairman of the PrepCom-3 Sub-Committee A on Internet
Governance, is open to all stakeholders, including Civil Society
