Dear Supporters of NoSoftwarePatents.com:

The EU Commission, under the leadership of someone who previously
failed as Portuguese prime minister and as per the suggestion of a
Microsoft puppet, has decided to decline the European Parliament's
request for restarting the process on the software patent directive.

You can read more about this here:

This is a crime against democracy. However, it will have repercussions
of enormous proportions. At the end of the day, I believe that the
Commission will very much regret this. The EU Council may already
decide next Monday that it wants to renegotiate its so-called
Common Position on the software patent directive. Even if the Council
doesn't do so, then the European Parliament will give the Commission
a "rough ride" in the second reading as one MEP already said.

For now I only have one little request: If you are an active
slashdot.org user, please submit a story to slashdot.org on this and
include a link to the above addresses since that will help generate
awareness for the fact that Microsoft influenced this decision.

Best regards,
