Terminó la Cumbre, pero el debate sigue abierto y a la espera de acciones

Se suponía que esta segunda fase de Túnez debía encontrar mecanismos concretos al menos para ayudar a superar la "brecha digital" y para el gobierno de Internet. El Secretario General de Naciones Unidas Kofi Annan dijo que había pasado el tiempo de los diagnósticos y llegaba la hora de las acciones. Son sin embargo pobres las acciones que puedan surgir de la Cumbre. El documento final es interesante como Declaración pero aporta pocas soluciones concretas.

Organizaciones Sociales de Base de Estados Unidos, levantaron su voz en Túnez

En la Cumbre de Túnez, uno de los eventos paralelos fue la serie de charlas y paneles organizados por la Red de Justicia en los Medios, un grupo de organizaciones sociales de base que trabajan por los derechos de la comunicación en Estados Unidos. Promueven diferentes campañas usando los medios para comunicar demandas sociales y visibilizar a grupos excluidos como los afrodescendientes, los inmigrantes asiáticos, las comunidades étnicas, las mujeres, entre muchos otros.

CMSI: Modestos logros, muchas incertidumbres

La Cumbre Mundial sobre la Sociedad de la Información (segunda fase), que se clausuró en Túnez el 18 de noviembre, arroja parcos resultados concretos. El avance más destacado se registró en el tema de gobierno de Internet, que vaticina una modesta pero notable apertura hacia una mayor participación multilateral y multisectorial, en un dominio controlado casi exclusivamente por las corporaciones y el gobierno estadounidenses.

Waiting for Pilots to Land in Tunis

As the UN-convened World Summit on the Information Society ends, there are still too many pilots hovering around, looking for landing space.
No, they are not trying to bring in late arriving summiteers to the Tunisian capital, which has hosted thousands to talk about the future of our information society and networked world.

I didn't attend the first Summit in Geneva... No particular reason to do so and no funds to provide support. Those who did attend indicated that the major and lasting benefit that they saw arising from their attendance at WSIS was the networking opportunities that it afforded.
