Dear Meryem

As President of the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA), I can confirm IFLA's support for Dr Ebadi's nomination as a speaker at WSIS Tunis.

It is IFLA's view that civil society needs to articulate forcibly the paramount importance of respect for human rights - and particularly freedom of expression and of access to information, the need to respect and promote diversity in all of its forms and the urgency of redressing disadvantage. We hope that all speakers will speak in concert as was done so effectively in WSIS Geneva.

With best wishes

Alex Byrne
