YOCADS HOLDS AN INTER-ACTIVE LIVE RADIO TALK SHOW ON THE MDGs

Radio is the most effective way of public relations. It reaches as many people as compared to any medium of communication in Liberia. In this endeavor, the Youth for Community Academic and Development Services (YOCADS), due to its systematic campaign on the UN MDGs in verious Communities and Institutions was invited by STAR radio-Liberia for an INTER-ACTIVE RADIO TALK SHOW February 13, 2006.Appearing as guest were Alphonso K. Weah and Zolu f. Gobah officials of YOCADS to discuss issues relative to the MDGs.

Amongst many issues discuss were increasing the understanding/knowledge of the wider audience of Liberia commitment towards achieving the MDGs which will enable them to contribute their much needed personal commitment, skills and energies to the implementation and monitoring process. Also to make their advocacy and efforts towards better opportunities for young people and future generations in development processes more effective.

According to the president Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, recently mentioned in her inaugural addressed the significant of the MDGs in Liberia’s development priorities. YOCADS strongly holds the view that the millennium Development Goals (MDGs) Campaign a great offers opportunity to address the present and future needs of the vast majority/young people in Liberia. As reflected in “Youth and Millennium Development (MDGs) opportunities and Challenges for implementation” report published in 2004. All eight goals target and effect the youth’s well being directly as well as country’s ability to sustain development improvements in the future.

Therefore, youth should no only be beneficiaries of improved human well being, but be recognized as principal actors in enabling Liberia as in other Countries, to achieving the MDGs. This is why YOCADS has made it her responsibility in her advocacy to educate the wider audience to know why the MDGs are so important and to understand that their government has made promises to make Liberian society a better and safer place for all, through the media/radio. Although Liberia was not present at the millennium Summit in 2000 that give birth to the millennium Declaration, but later ratified the document in 2002. Getting people excited to take action begins by raising awareness about the issues, that why YOCADS say only our voices Liberia ca achieve MDGs by 2015
