Dear All,
RE ACSIS INTERIM EXCO-NIGERIA CHAPTER
As you may well be aware, Nigeria is one of the
countries that are yet to have her ACSIS Exco
elected/nominaton done.
Reasons for this are not far fetched-the rich and
diverse nature of our great country Nigeria.
Following the series of discussions and follow-up for
an ochestrated and organized African Civil Society
with a strong voice and influential role with issues
that does not ONLY relate to ICT but all other issues
contributory to sustainable develoment, the need for a
strong leadership role for Nigeria can not be over
emphasized.
This was what informed the constructive and objective
position taken by some of us at the ACSIS forum in
Tunis.
You will agree that the ACSIS leadership that emerged
from that meeting was ANYTHING but by consesus or
democratic.
As much as we would have loved to set up parralel
ASCIS Body of the Anglophone zones, the need for a
united continent over rode all personal and pecuniary
interest, and chose instead to allow events to unfold
as we move along.
Back home, consultationsand meetings have been taking
place amongst various stakeholders in Nigeria with
both formal and informal meeting holding at the
Corporate office of Nurses Across the Borders- NGO an
Special Consultative Status with the Economic and
Social Council of the UN-ECOSOC.
In all these meetings, yours truly acted as the
Convener and Interim Chairman, while Prince Goodluck
Obi acted as the Scribe.
Whie this was going on, concerted efforts were made to
put Nigeria at the fore of discussions at the level of
the ACSIS and the WSIS forum by our various
contributions and nomination to most of the issues
being discussed at the level of ACSIS and WSIS.
After series of deliberation and contacts, at a recent
meeting of Stakeholders-June 20th 2006 at the
Corporate Office of Nurses Across the Borders
Secretariat at 295 Ikorodu Road, Idiroko Bus Stop, for
the purpose of nominating Nigerian Represnetatives to
the Council of ACSIS and constituting the Executive
Council of the Nigerian Chapter.
This meeting was attended by reprsentaives of more
than 30 organizations involved with ICT and other
issus related to sustainable development.
After careful and passionate review of events as it
relates to forming an Executive Council for Nigeria
Chapter, it was resolved by consensus that conducting
a creible election now will be very premature, as much
is being done and yet to be done to create enough
awareness for ICT related events amongst the various
interest in Nigeria.
Instead it was resolved(to avoid a leadrship vacuum)
that Nominations be made for an INTERIM Exco, whose
major repsonsiblitity amongst others will be to make
very wide consultation and coordiantion of all
stakeholders all over the federation and outside-for
we acknowledge with pride the trail being blazed by
some compatriots outside Nigeria that has placed them
on the Sands of Time for ICT
Taking into account the multi-ethnic nature of
Nigeria, and other geo-political interest/affiliations
without throwing MERIT to the dust, the ASSEMBLAGE of
those present at the meeting arrived by consesus to
NOMINATE a COORDINATOR and Secreatary that would act
as both the Chairman and Scribe based on the following
considerations:-
The Organization(s) represented by thoseto be
so-nominated MUST have been ACCREDITED and ACTIVELY
PARTICIPATED in ALL the PHASES of the WSIS and the
PREP COMS.
This CONDITION therefore influenced the NOMINATION of
PASTOR PETERS OSAWARU OMORAGBON-(Executive
President/CEO of Nurses Across the Borders, an NGO on
Special Consultative Status with the Economic and
Social Council of the United Nations-ECOSOC)as the
INTERIM COORDINATOR/CHAIRMAN and PRINCE GOODLUCK
OBI(National Executive President United Nations of
Youth-UNOY Network Nigeria-a coalition of over 150
CBOS and NGOS).
The interim Executive Council is to organize elections
into the Exco of the Nigeria Chapter within the next
two years.
Any member so nominated will still have the
opportiunity to contest provided he /she steps down a
month before the election date.
To assist these leaders were also nominated the

in hand by pooling all the resources available to us
to promote the growth and progress of Nigeria and
Africa at all fora.
