Dear All

Weah to attend the UNIDO/AU High-Level Consultative Meeting on Productive Work for Youth In West Africa with emphasis on the Mano River Union, to be convened in Accra , Ghana , on 19 and 20 February 2007. The High-Level Consultative Meeting is one of the preparation events designed to support discussion at the Summit of the Africa Union (AU) Heads of State and Governments in July 2007, which will focus on Africa s Industrial Competitiveness and Trade. It is also a follow up to a Ministerial Breakfast Roundtable Meeting hosted by UNIDO Director-General with the support of the secretary-Generals Youth Employment Network (YEN) at the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) High Level In Geneva.
Further more, the Meeting aims to generate a better understanding of what works where and why in stimulating employment for youth and to identify concrete initiatives, which governments and their development partners may wish to undertake. The meeting will bring together Ministers from the region, High-Level representatives of regional intergovernmental organizations from West Africa, UN agencies, the donors community, private sector representatives, academia, parliamentarians, media ,and organizations of the private sector and civil society particularly youth organizations. Dear all,
Many of you have expressed their interest in the media education kit but
some also have signaled their difficulty in accessing it. Abubakar Alhassan
and Lisa McLaughlin have just explained to me that the error comes from a
wrong segmentation of the word SECTION. The correct URL should keep it all
in one piece, with no space in between the 'S' and the 'E' . It should read:
http://portal.unesco.org/ci/en/ev.php-URL_ID=23714&URL_DO=DO_PRINTPAGE&URL_
SECTION=201.html
Many thanks for all your shows of interest. This kit is YOURS to
appropriate, to adapt, to criticize, to improve, etc. In my mind, and the
mind of the Mentor association members, this kit is just a small
contribution to the beginning of what must be a major shift and change of
scale in education worldwide, with sustainable development and cultural
diversity in mind.
We will be testing some sections of the kit in France as a means of
celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Grunwald declaration with a
conference planned in June. Also the kit will be officially launched by
Mentor in Riyadh, in Saudi Arabia, the 4-7th of March 2007. Among those
attending the conference will be the Ministers of Education from the
countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council, and other Arab states, as well as
representatives from developing countries in Asia.
Any initiative of this kind is welcome in other regions of the world. We
need you to raise awareness about currently available research, tools,
pedagogies. We need you to support policies facilitating integration of
media education in national and local curricula. We need you to promote
collaborative efforts among researchers and teachers, internationally. We
need you to connect these efforts with the WSIS e-learning and media action
lines. Education is the key to many doors and many minds. Let's use it,
together.
Best
Divina
